Treemagotchi is an online tool that helps people take the step from thinking to doing in relation to global and socially fair issues. People plant a tree on their blog, facebook or website, which they feed by taking actions that better the (social) environment. Just as with the old-school tamagotchi your tree flourishes when you take good care of it (by doing a lot of the environmental to-do’s) and deteriorates when you neglect it (by ignoring the to-do’s). Tens of thousands of peopla planded their digital tree and hundreds of thousands of actions were completed by them
The Treemagotchi gadget was developed and designed by FFX, the website it was available from was designed by Driebit
Kairos Tools, a non-profit organization from Amsterdam, came to us(FFX) with the basic idea. We need an online tool, a portal, to make it easy for people to participate in various green and fair actions, already widely available on the web.
After numerous brainstorms, our company FFX and Kairos Tools developed the Treemagotchi. A tree that would flourish when actions were completed and wither when actions were ignored.

To add an adittional award system I suggested a funny little gnome, a treekeeper.
When actions were completed, the user would be awarded with all kinds of toys and clothing for the gnome.
An electric guitar that spit fire when played, a stunt-pig, a swing, a unicycle, just to name a few. The gadget became more interesting to came back too, cause there was a lot of fun to be had.

Almost every aspect of the Treemagotchi was customizable, the background, the floor, type of clouds, what toys to display, etc.
Karios Tools Treemagotchi concept was awarded with a € 20.000,- cash price, by a green Dutch bank, for best innovative idea of 2009. The money was used to further develope the Treemagotchi.
